Our design for the first completed building at Silo Park was recognized for weaving new housing into the Granary District’s historic grain silos and warehouses.
MVE + Partners received a Commendation in the Multifamily/Mixed-Use Development (Built) category at the 2026 AIA Orange County Design Awards for Greenside at Silo Park in Salt Lake City. Greenside is the first completed building in Silo Park, a redevelopment in the city’s Granary District that MVE master planned for Catalyst Opportunity Funds, Blaser Ventures and Lowe Property Group.
What award did Greenside at Silo Park receive?
Greenside received a Commendation in the Multifamily/Mixed-Use Development (Built) category at the 2026 AIA Orange County Design Awards, presented by the Orange County chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The recognition highlights a design that celebrates the industrial heritage of the Granary District.
What is Greenside at Silo Park?
Greenside is a 65-unit workforce housing building in Salt Lake City's Granary District. Completed in February 2026, it was the first building to open within Silo Park, a block long defined by its white grain silos and historic warehouses.
What was the main design challenge at Greenside?
The central challenge was bringing new housing and retail onto a site defined by vacant grain silos and two historic warehouses without erasing the block's industrial character. Rather than demolish that infrastructure, our plan keeps the silos and warehouses at the physical and symbolic center of the site and arranges the new construction around them.
How does Greenside's design connect old and new?
The design treats the new buildings and the existing industrial structures as one composition. New construction preserves sightlines to the silos from the street and frames a new public green space between old and new. Brick and heavy-timber materials pick up the character of the historic warehouses without imitating them, and pedestrian walkways threaded between the silos and buildings link the site together. The warehouses are being converted to retail and commercial use, so adaptive reuse anchors the redevelopment.
"The silos are what make this block memorable, so we built the plan around them. Our goal was for the new buildings and the existing industrial fabric to read as one place, not a preserved artifact sitting beside something unrelated." Pieter Berger, AIA, Principal, MVE + Partners
What is the larger plan for Silo Park?
Greenside is the first piece of a larger plan for the block. As master planner for Silo Park, MVE + Partners organized housing, shops, walkways and a central park around the silos, just west of the Post District. The approach at Greenside, keeping the silos in view and arranging new buildings around shared open space, carries through the rest of the plan. The development team’s vision serves households earning from 0% to 120% of area median income, with additional buildings now open or under construction.
